O programa de Iluminação Urbana e Ambiental para o Centro Histórico de Évora/1993 foi o primeiro programa na especialidade a ser realizado em Portugal. A necessidade de desenvolver uma estratégia de valorização da qualidade urbana e ambiental do núcleo do centro histórico de Évora levou a considerar também a iluminação como um instrumento de modelação e percepção do espaço urbano. Assim, trata-se de revelar e clarificar um potencial existente para uma apropriação urbana de acordo com os valores patrimoniais e espaciais que o sistema, no quadro da sucessivas aproximações visuais, produz .
The urban and environmental lighting programme designed for the Historic Centre of Évora/ World Heritage Site, UNESCO 1985 was the first step taken in Portugal towards defining an overall lighting strategy. This lighting programme intends to reconcile the parameters of intervention on the perception and structure of the urban system with the aim of creating a visual anticipation of the urban system. Creating a new opportunity of urban experience and, therefore, of spatial order it will complement the understanding and perception of the urban historical development . A few lighting designed projects have been implemented according to the guide lines recommended in this document.

O programa de Iluminação Urbana e Ambiental para a Vila de Sintra foi desenvolvido a fim de estabelecer um novo quadro urbano devolvendo hierarquias espaciais, percursos visuais e escala urbana a este conjunto natural e histórico. O programa desenvolvido, que foi aprovado em reunião de Câmara por unanimidade em 1997, permite estabelecer pontes visuais entre os diferentes elementos que constituem a imagem deste conjunto.
The denomination of Cultural Landscape within the World Heritage List demands the registration of an expecptional combination of natural and cultural sites. But, as it happens in many other cities there was not a lighting strategy that met the specific needs of each different kind of space which is to be found within the area classified by UNESCO. A lighting strategy was therefore designed which encompassed all these elements but respected their individual atmosphere and caracter. A few lighting design projects were already developed under the strategy document.

O programa de Iluminação Urbana e Ambiental para o Centro Histórico de Arraiolos cria um conjunto de critérios de avaliação para a elaboração de uma estrategia de acções no plano da iluminação do conjunto. Um ficheiro urbano que constroi uma rede visual permite identificar cada situação e enquadrar a respectiva intervenção assegurando que cada intervenção possa contribuir para uma unidade espacial.
The lighting strategy for this small town in Portugal allows the city council to ensure a visual understanding of the site. The Castle is the most proeminent feature. A few lighting design projects were already developed and some were implemented under the strategy document.

O Plano de iluminação do centro historico de San Luis Potosí será realizada em pareceria com Gustavo Aviles/lighteam, Mexico City. Este Plano desenvolve-se tendo como primeira avaliação o desenvolvimento histórico da cidade e a sua relação espacial cardinalmente orientada por um desvio de 20 graus relativamente ao Norte Magnético. Assim, foram encontrados todos os pontos de marcação visual e arquitectónica que fazem deste centro histórico um marco na paisagem tendo, o elemento água como um elemento igualmente orientador de uma triângulação espacial decisiva para reafirmar uma nova 'rota visual' na cidade. A Procissão do Silêncio é outro plano de percurso que se juntará a estas relações interespaciais.

We were invited to develop the lighting strategy for this historic center by Gustavo Aviles based in Mexico City. This lighting plan takes the special north/south orientation of the city as an important element for the development of the urban tissue. The shift of 20degrees on the orientation revels the importance of the water in the relation of the main historic buildings identified by the plan as visual elements to emphasize and reinforce by light. The Silent route is a special urban event, which is also related with the understanding of the identity of the place was then taken as an important part of the Lighting Plan strategy. (pdf)
